This is actually my least favorite Agalloch album but that doesn't mean much.

I think it's actually pretty sad that instead of actually thinking about whether or not Agalloch really is a poor imitation of Ulver, most of you would rather make predictable insults and ignore analyzing the music altogether. Have any of you guys actually heard the album Bergtatt? I have to assume you haven't, so here are two very clear examples of Agalloch stealing from Ulver.
"I Am the Wooden Doors" has almost the exact same drum intro and feel as the first track on Bergtatt, "I Troldskog Faren Vild." The songs are actually in the same key (break out your shitty Jackson and play along to both and you'll see exactly what I mean).
The introduction of "The Lodge," which the reviewer described as "very interesting" is found in the middle of "Graablick blev hun vaer." Yes, footsteps in the snow, conveying isolation. Of course, Ulver's use is far more effective, as it is a dramatic interlude (with much better instrumentation) that is part of the story: a young girl is alone and astray in a "snow-clad world" and begins to panic, charging desperately through the woods.
There are countless other comparisons I could make, but the above are so discernible that I figure even the average metal fan could follow along! Plus, I know you guys have a strict limit to how many paragraphs you are willing to trudge through.
(By the way, Bergtatt was released in 1994; The Mantle in 2002.)

Yeah, it's strange for a metal fan to be...educated. Next time, I'll throw in a few FUCKIN A's to please the masses, and rely on words like SUCK, PISS, and SHIT. "Dude, like, fuckin' a, dude. "
Dude, you're in high school and know fuck all about anything. Please don't come in here with a smug attitude.

I'm shocked only one person actually commented on the analysis...well done, lads. (Of course, I'm sure you've all carefully compared the two albums yearsssss ago, resulting in several insightful theses and a fully illustrated, yet hard to find, novella.)
Wizard is the reason most people look at metal as such a vulgar, base art form: hostile ignorance. I really should, however, start using the expression "know fuck all about anything." Anyone who plays a Caparison knows fuck all about nothing...fuck nothing about everything...fuck some things about all things? I really am not sure how to convey the opposite of that charming sentiment, but I do like the Angelus, though they are damn hard to find in the States.

Bergtatt is much better than this album but this is not a blatant rip-off in the slightest. Agalloch have a much bleaker, post-rock/doom vibe than Ulver, which is basically a perfect marriage of black metal/folk. The Mantle is much more diverse than Bergtatt, but it also drags.
KeatsVerse, stop being so damn narcissistic and realize that trying to prove your intelligence over the internet to a bunch of strangers isn't quite as rewarding as you think is. Nobody will take you seriously.

but dude Sum 41 used the same exact riff in "Still Waiting" as Ulver did in "Hymne VIII-Wolf And The Night" so that must mean by your reasoning that Sum 41 is a trite, insipid copy of Ulver.
It's all clear to me know.

I think that this band was obviously influenced by Bergtatt. I think most black/folk metal bands should be influenced by that album.

Influence is one thing...but stealing? Anyone who understands music at a fundamental level could easily hear the many, many musical parallels, and it's pathetic that Agalloch didn't even attempt to alter certain drum parts/progressions/harmonies in the hope of "appearing" original.
The snow-walking sound sample might be a gimmick, but it's pretty blatant, and I don't recall the boys from Agalloch saying, "By the way, this one is a tribute to the mighty Ulver." The boys from Agalloch were too busy writing extended, generic guitar riffs and lyrics like: "You are the lugubrious spirit." Don't you guys just hate lugubrious spirits? Fuckers always try to bring you down. And don't forget this magical couplet (not quite iambic pentameter, but a damn good try!):
As I'm stalked by the shadow of death's hand,
The fire in my heart is forged across the land.
That shit rivals later Bathory in terms of sheer corniness.
Ultimately, I guess using big words and writing poetry (even at a clumsy, middle school level) is only cool if you're in a mediocre band from Oregon that "borrows" from brilliant Norwegian black metal. Fuckin' A.

I forgot about your extensive knowledge of poetic verse from your high school newspaper days.
The lyrics here sure aren't as good as The Chainheart Machine, that's for sure.
So you wanna play rough?
Say hello to my little friend
With my finger on the trigger
You're watching the judge of today
Killing-there's nothing in my seeing what's wrong
Running-or is it just that I'm...
Fearing -in fears for your lives you scream like a pig
Thrilling-my pulse will go up and yours will go down!
