I agree with that but I could never get into skydancer. Its one of their most poetic albs though

Im also mad i passed up seeing them in NY last year. Went on a date instead

Oh man I love Skydancer. The technicality on display there is only occasionally matched in their modern era

I have no idea how one could ever think that Skydancer is an Atoma/We Are the Void tier album.

Atoma is a lot better than WATV to me but I agree with what you’re saying

Just realized you were probably responding to Hawks’ ratings lol

Man I will never understand why this doesn’t get the attention that their other stuff does. Some of their best tracks are here

If The Gallery is the Jane Doe of melodic death metal then this is You Fail Me

I'm bumping this up to a 4. It simply builds to an excellent latter half. Also, I think the comparison to You Fail Me quite apt. This is the moodier but nonetheless well-constructed followup to the more active The Gallery.

The better follow-up is the one that came after this... just saying.

To me, this is literally the worst album in their discography. It's still not bad, and has a couple of really cool songs (Hedon is the only one that comes to mind, though), but it's just too sparse and bare-bones for a DT release.

Edit: I think if it wasn't a DT release, I wouldn't even bother with this album at all.

Agreed. I'm not just comparing this to Projector, I'm comparing it to the entire discography. It's just a weak record, that would probably feel even weaker (to me) if it hadn't been released by Dark Tranquillity.

I still enjoy this and Hedon is one of my favorites, but some moments here are quite weak. The past week or so I've been listening a lot to Projector and it's growing on me even more.

You seriously can't say this is worse than WATV

Projector, Damage Done, and Construct are my Top-3 DT albums. So that kind of tells you where my preference is with this band. Having said that, WATV sits right above this one on my personal list.

What diminishes the earlier material for you?
