"They have three guitaristst so on tour, one less doesn't matter as much."

They go without a hitch with 2 guitarists, when they say they need 3 guitarists to convey the greatest live performance, I call BS on that tbh

What's there to call BS on? In theory they could have zero guitarists and run all the guitar tracks off a laptop. They've already been doing that for the bass for years.

I mean it doesn’t surprise me. If you watch those live-in-studio videos on youtube it never seems like Jake Misha and Mark are playing three different things... infact it looks like Misha and Mark are mirrors unless one is playing a solo.

Yeah. Their live set-up has long been Mark and Misha panned to the sides stage left and right because they're playing a lot of the same rhythm parts with some harmonies and solos and Jake centered because he plays most of the melodic and ambient parts. So yeah, not a HUGE problem for them to not have one of the rhythm parts.

"They've already been doing that for the bass for years."

They need a new bassist, like that's just a fact, no bassist live is just inauthentic and in a way weirdly synthetic and robotic, but a 3rd guitarist, I don't feel it be overly necessary like you say Mark and Misha mostly do the rhythm, it is not as necessary as a bassist

"It's bass though, who's gonna notice?"

inb4 bands just do computer playback gigs with live vocals on top and go "it's just guitars, bass and drums though, who's gonna notice?"

They've been a consistent lineup for a long time and they still see Nolly as their guy even if he doesn't want to tour any more. I think it's kind of a neat gesture to refuse to replace him on stage. If they're comfortable with their dynamic there's no reason to bring in a new guy just for appearances.

seems like for a lot of the bands i see live the drums drown out the guitars much of the time anyway, so an extra player wouldn't help much.

Wow...you need to stop going to whatever shitty venue you go to because that has maybe only been an issue at maybe 3 or 4 out of the shows I've ever been to, and I've been to a fair number.

Never noticed the review and your score were different, curious. It's never happened to me where I felt like I should make that distinction, can u give the rational? (actually curious)

Ha! Yeah, in a nutshell:

The personal rating is a simple "how much do I like it" score and I don't generally bother getting into the .5s.

With the review score I *attempt* to be a little more objective and nuanced which is why I put a little extra thought into whether it requires a 4 or a 4.5.
