AOTY though

Great album, but a bit too mellow.

Their performance at Lollapalooza was incredible. They played a little over two hours. Seven tracks from this one and a little too much from Hail To The Thief - four or five tracks - which is their worst album (save Pablo Honey).

I generally don't discover albums till about a year after they're released. Unless I already like the band/artist.

"if you think there's not a lot of music in 2016 better than a 3.5/5 then ur not doing it right adr"

not what he said. he implied this album (a 3.5, or "great") is better than most, which is pretty fair. not 99% or something.

if a 5/5 is one of those albums that maybe comes once a year (or every few years, even), a 4-4.5 is a top 5 aoty contender, then a 3.5 is still a solid-azz rating.

I usually rate one album a year a 5. About 2-4 fall in the 4.5 range, then there's a solid assortment of 4's and odd numbered ratings (4.3 is like my go to rating for anything amazing but not in the classic conversation).

I'm admittedly softer with ratings than I used to be though. Now that this site is a metacritic mainstay I tend to just rate on a 100 scale so if I think something is great it tends to score an 80 or higher.

i got two 5s out of this year so far, about 11 or so 4.5s, and then a random assortment of everything else. most of it, despite how much i like it, havent been AS good as the last few years (bar 2014) though.

Oh wow and I thought I was generous.

Yeah this year is about on par with the last few although last year's AOTY (Carrie and Lowell) trumps this year's (A Moon Shaped Pool); and both of them top my 2014 AOTY (Low Roar's 0) - although that year unilaterally kicked ass and I had about twice as many albums rated 4 or higher.

'Oh wow and I thought I was generous.'

i wouldnt call it generous, ive just listened to a lot this year and ive found most of it to be enjoyable. For a while on RYM i thought it was a good idea to listen to 100 albums from each month this year so I got a lot out of finding stuff with absolutely no ratings or very few ratings.
