I haven't dived much into Nas's discog, only this, It Was Written and God's Son. Out of those I find God's Son to be pretty great and found It Was Written pretty boring.

I might check out those albums Magic onward, but idk if I'll vibe with any of em

nothing else of his comes close to this, it’s kinda sad

obviously still a goat rapper, it’s just the sum of the production and rapping here is unreal

Honestly I agree, the production here has a very specific vibe to it, like when I listen to this and close my eyes I can picture myself in a grimy section of New York when it's so cold you can see your breath clouds.

There's other boom bap records that also do that, but nothing in Nas's discog really evoke the imagery of a grimy wintertime New York like this does.

I need to run through more of his stuff, but Illmatic is genuinely special, even more points for bucking the trend of a lot of 90's rap albums just being way too long just for the sake of filling out an 80-minute CD runtime and being all killer no filler.

Most of his other stuff is fantastic too but nothing will ever top this. He's still going strong in his 50s though. GOAT shit.

i'm sure the lowkey hipster in me will want to argue something like King's Disease 3 contends too because i don't want to look as basic as I feel i am with this genre, but sometimes a classic is a classic

That rules but nah. This here is a stone cold classic. 12/5 album.

i honestly try to calm down that side of me since I am well aware the hipster part of my brain is only there because I feel like if I have a "basic" shirt on, someone far more annoying will yell at me for only listening to "entry level" stuff, and if I wore Nas merch I wouldn't want some dickhead yelling basic taste if I named a song off Illmatic as his best
