Some of the drumming is a fair bit weaker sounding than the studio versions unfortunately - and for me this is almost a ‘drumming album’

I mean it’s now obvious why they don’t play ‘Brainy’ live too much (arguably one of their best songs? Top 20 at least) - it’s a studio tune

I Kind of a agree that the drumming is a bit too low in the mix (squalor Victoria tho) but then again the brass-section is so much better in the live Version than on the Album and the Dessner guitars pack a bit more punch as well.

Also I have no Problem with a negative/luke-warm opinion on that live-Lp, but that P4K Review. Boy oh Boy.

This is still good, but I’m starting to see why they’ve started writing different style drums - because the new material like ‘Day I Die’ had an incredible drum sound live

This has no punch. Brass and guitars are great though, and vocals not bad

Harsh to say but the only keepers for me from it will be the tunes with little drumming - Green Gloves is great

Slow Show close to an abomination with this weedy drum sound for me

This is about the last album I feel like I need a live version of, there's a spaceyness in the production that has always made it feel sort of live/in the room to me already.

So far only Green Gloves, Apartment Story and ‘Start a War’ have worked too well

Conclusion:

1. Second half of the album is easier to play live

2. They focused most of their experimental ‘updating’ of the songs in the first half, esp (gah) experimenting with the drums
