More than the production is the music, it's trying so hard to be closer to straight bm they lose so much of their original musical style and emotional punch in the process.

Hit the nail right on the head right there talons. I feel like any talented band could have recorded this record. It's just isn't distinct Agalloch

i don't even care about the production they just didn't write any good songs. which is disappointing when they previously wrote three straight albums full of them.

@art there isn't a single point on this page that isn't valid so I don't see any problem.

well i personally like the production on this and i don't really get where the hate for it comes from, but mostly this:

"it's trying so hard to be closer to straight bm they lose so much of their original musical style and emotional punch in the process."

what? and people even agree on this?

The songs on here are pretty good though. This is better than their newest record at least which sucks.

Well yea it's not The Mantle but part of what gives albums like Ashes, The Mantle and PF the emotional punch is the amazing contrast between the folk and atmospheric metal style of play. The only song I really connect emotionally to here is Black Lake honestly, but the rest is enjoyable to listen to. I just wish the mix sounded a bit better.

Yeah, I think many people already enjoyed this album, though.
