I gave this another go after they landed a Download headline slot next year...but I just cannot get on with this. There are several songs I like elements of, but not one sees it all the way through and couple have no redeeming features whatsoever.
(O)rdinary probably gets cloest with its overt Daft Punk vibes, but even that loses its way slightly in the last 30 seconds.

I was on board with this from the moment 'We Love You' dropped. This record is pretty blatant Mr. Bungle worship, but I love Mike Patton sooooo

Yeah, if anything, the Bungle comparison is a compliment

I just hope that whatever they do next doesn’t take 7 years. I know covid was probably a factor, but it’s wild to think they released Nightmare, Hail to the King, and The Stage in less time than it took to drop this.
This record has made me remember why I love this band so much

Never thought in a million years an avenged sevenfold album would be in my top five of any year but here we are

Honestly, I am not surprised. Given how much Periphery has grown on me and how much 30STM used to not suck, bands aren't always only as good, or as creative as their biggest material.

Bummer seeing the average crushed to death on this one. I can't explain how happy I am that this album vastly surpassed all my expectations and is fun as hell. The singles were ridiculous until I heard them 30 times on the record and all of a sudden it just clicked. Nothing massively "artsy and elitist" about this record but who gives a shit

in hindsight this was one of the weirdest funniest best album rollouts i can ever remember
band is for intents and purposes completely inactive for 5 years. "nobody" single drops out of nowhere and we all have a fucking meltdown, worse than httk, shadows is washed, legit looks like were about to get the st anger / illud divinum insanus of the 2020s
then "we love you" drops and its somehow even weirder and wackier but also maybe actually amazing??? interest is significantly piqued.
all the while shadows does like a half dozen strange interviews where he talks about him and syn doing mushrooms and being heavily influenced by kanye and daft punk while the interviewers are completely unable to make sense of the album they just listened to. never seen anything like it
then they started playing shows again a couple weeks before release and opening with "game over" with shadows running around the stage in a ski mask and seemingly yelling DUHDUDHDUHDUDHDUH. and then they perform "nobody" and "we love you" and shadows is singing normally and doesn't sound 80???
so funny reading through those news articles knowing this turned out to be arguably the best album of their career
