@Mythodea I think you might be the only one who thinks that lol. Cheers dude
@Egarran yeah, but skill/technicality doesn't make an artist's music objectively good.

No way dude!!! I'm totally with Mythodea. It's very cool!
Did an Art history minor during my Biology Bachelor. Totally love it.
Never underestimate the nerdiness of the Sput-crew.

I mean that if this was played by tone-deaf ten year olds, it would be an objectively worse piece of art.

would it, though?
But, before that, it's different to compose a piece of music to be played in a certain way and then butchering it, and it's another thing completely to not rely on technical skills to write music.

The human ear responds better to harmonic etc. sounds. That is how skill objectively improves music.
Maybe you mean opinions about art are subjective and that is correct.

@Egarran I mean, it couldn't be played by tone deaf ten-year olds, but okay, I get your point. Skill as it relates to technicality and musicianship are important, but they're not "objective" measures of how good a piece of music. If that were true then all of Yngwie Malmsteen's albums would be masterpieces.
On the other hand, been thinking a bit about this whole idea of skill as an objective, and it does seem like a pretty decent one if applied broadly. Like, I guess anyone with a high level of skill when it comes to production, songwriting, musicianship, etc. would be expected to be more capable of making great music than someone without those skills - but even then I reckon there's a lot more to it. Like, someone with all those skills could probably make a technically "perfect," but also utterly soulless album.

this was my first opeth album, no screams, no problem

... dude seriously the 'no screams' thing is a decade old, it so isn't about that anymore. Believe it or not but everyone has moved on. Most people dislike this one for so many different reasons.
I for one sometimes consider Heritage to be their best album. But this one is their worst. By far.

Yeah I'm not one of the guys pissed off about growls being gone. This album is just the most boring effort in their career

Eh fail to see how it's boring, has consistent fast paced tempos, and when they're not its groovey as hell riffs like on the title track, a lot of shreddy solos too which is cool, only part I see that's boring is like, Seventh Sojourn, and I love that song cause it has such a cinematic vibe, feel like I'm traversing a vast desert whenever i listen to it.
