Tool are very rhythmic based and have an incredible command on timing when compared to a lot of other bands. If you're looking for technicality they aren't that kind of band, so makes sense why youre not huge on them.

like yea the songs really good but its not complex in the absolute slightest
Dude. I come from a background in classical music, and "The Grudge" is one of the most complex songs I've heard in rock. The motivic development and structure of that song are in the upper echelon of complexity.
Just because it's built on a simple idea doesn't mean it's not complex.
