I wish James returned to write songs about social criticism instead of generic topics.

James kinda morphed into the ultimate dad-rocker. He probably doesn't want to ruffle any feathers at this point.

Metallica writing social criticism at this point is ironic

Although his existentialistic lyrics are pretty damn good, As a hardcore philosophy fan I approve it.

bleeding me and the outlaw torn are 2 great examples of existentialistic lyrics. But I think the band was too deep into alice in chains and soundgarden at that point.

Well, I just relistened and this is better than I remember it to be. Maybe I'll bump this up a 0.5 or so. I generally think this band is very very overrated though.

Depends on what ya dig. I’ve learnt to appreciate them as I’ve got older. Growing up I always thought they were a bunch of benders.

Probably. MoP for example bores me most of the time. There are top tier tracks like the title track, welcome home, orion e.g. But others just drag like the thing that should not be or disposable heroes. When it was released it must have blown some minds though.

I have no doubt. Enter Sandman was fucking massive when it came out and was my first introduction to the band but I just couldn’t be doing with all the hair and fake attitude bullshit. Sepultura on the other hand m/

I would rate it classic but the production job isn't too wonderful.
