I wouldn't say it's a disgrace, it just doesn't sound good. People sweep so many bad sections under the carpet in relation to this album or just totally ignore them. There's far too many errors for lack of a better word on this for it to be classic.



I am a huge Opeth fan and imo this isn't fit to shine the shoes of at least 5 other Opeth albums.

It's not that it's hard to understand, bro. To clarify, I've heard countless people badmouth sections on this album yet have it at a 5. I.E. sweeping things under the carpet. Not the fact that I don't like what they like, if that makes sense.

i understand that for sure. no album is perfect for me though. i can pick out moments (especially after many many listens) on all my favorite albums that aren't perfect. for instance, dirge can tend to drag for me when i listen to this (not always though, it depends). it doesn't change anything for me in terms of ranking the whole package

Yeah MAYH rules so hard, fairly recently upgraded it to a 5. I think it's joint second with this for my favourite Opeth

Strongly disagree with this, I think it's easily their most cohesive and fluid record.

SL and this improve on their first three in almost every way and are them at their peak, everything is so much more mature and focused. Deliverance focused a little too much and they lost some of that magic, which they regained and rechanneled into Ghost Reveries, thats why those are their best three imo

Their first 2 are completely different to this and Still Life.

MAYH easily works best as whole out of all their albums. It doesn't drag at all which is a rarity when it comes to Opeth.
