yeah exactly dude. my roommate and i at the time were HUGE mastodon fans having gone to see them multiple times always wearing blood mountain shirts around etc, when we heard the curl of the burl single it was such a fucking painful realization that mastodon was basically dead.

I also tend to tune out once a band starts getting too accessible and commercial sounding, but again, I don't feel like it's forced pandering here, it feels like a natural progression that they wanted to make. I think Curl of the Burl is just a really fun goofy song. I think Show Yourself is much more of a forced wannabe radio hit song. Shit's ass.

There are songs on this i REALLY dig a lot, like black tongue and bedazzled fingernails, but the majority of the songs I could do without and that makes for a really choppy album listening experience
