dang thanks for letting me know, they’ve got an insane run of albums
unfortunately I’m not big on death metal just yet… perhaps it’s time to change that

This is the Isis I return to the most, it’s pretty immediate and I love the atmosphere. Ghost Key might be their best song, absolutely stunning, especially from 2:32 to the end. 20 Minutes/40 Years is pretty incredible too, especially the epic end section. I love the last 3 minutes of Stone to Wake a Serpent too. I feel like they could’ve gone on to be an instrumental post-rock band if they wanted.

Isis could have became glitch music and I’m sure they would have nailed it

Ghost Key is incredible, aye. I’d feel dirty jamming this over Panopticon now tbh, no real comparison. I love this for what it is, but the replay-ability over a longer period of time was eventually only ever going to lean one way.

This and In the Absence of Truth are my preferred ISIS sounds.

ItAoT and Panopticon will always be my top 2 I think. This and Oceanic are pretty much tied for 3rd. One of the goat bands, metal or otherwise.

Weight is the absolute pinnacle of repetitious rhythmic atmospheric music to me in general. Not one moment that’s not the suspenseful kinda “where is this going” mindset. It’s genius.

This had the best production on a post metal album of all time …until Dirge - Lost Empyrean was released.

hardly
jamming this back to back with Panop, and while that record is always a charm to come back to, a lot of its linear songwriting has definitely aged the slightest increment

Yeah
Man the layered vox parts on Threshold are sooo sick
|

Panop is linear songwriting? I feel like it warps and shifts and travels all over before returning to form each track. Explain yourself haha
