the acting wasnt very good, some of the camerawork, direction, and editing choices were confusing and ineffective, i hated the narration voiceover thing the movie had going on, there were some inaccuracies that annoyed me (and i didnt go into this expecting an accurate movie, i knew there would be a lot of "artistic liberties" taken and i was fine with some of them, but others brought the movie down), i didnt like how they tried so hard to paint Varg as the villain (they didnt need to, he was naturally the villain of the story, they tried way too hard to make him seem like the biggest asshole in existence), i was really disappointed in how they handled Varg and Euronymous' relationship (it didnt feel like there was ever any real camaraderie, their whole "friendship" was just made up of veiled power plays. and im sure there was some of that in real life, but im pretty sure they were also actual friends for a period of time. the movie totally squandered the chance to milk some good drama out of that. for example, at the end, they could have shown Varg showing some remorse and horror that he just murdered his friend for nothing when he realized Euronymous wasnt going to actually kill him. if they were going to take artistic liberties, they could have at least taken good ones. but instead [i guess to hammer home the villain thing even further] he's just like "well of course youre all talk you useless piece of shit, fuck you!" *stab stab stab*)...i could keep going.
there are some things i liked about it too, but im bored of typing this now. maybe later.

I agree Adolf, the characterizations were total ass, zero bro chemistry between the 2 leads or any of the characters for that matter.

one good thing i can say about it is they didnt shy away from the blood and gore. they show everything, no quick cut-aways or any cop-out shit like that.

Best scene was the reporter telling Varg his ideaology makes literally no sense
|
| |
The reporter scene was really funny. "I'm sure it doesn't make sense to a JOURNALIST like you." "You're right, it doesn't."
And ya, the gore was good. Dead's suicide was well shot, and both murder scenes felt fairly realistic

I saw a clip of the murder scene and it was brutal. I'm sure the rest of the movie probably sucks tho.

the killing of the gay man was laughable but admittedly the last kill was fucking brutal

Suicide scene being completely silent other than the sounds of the knife and the sounds dead was making as a result of it made it fucking brutal

Honestly, Lords of Chaos was apretty solid movie and surprisingly accurate. Really drives home how young, dumb, and edgy everyone was. Wish Attila had more screen time tho, his son looks a hell of a lot like him. After some thinking, making Euronymous seem more innocent and over vilifying Varg was a nicd way to deconstruct both characters, although I think there could have been a much better way to go about it.

Also, how much of the live performances were studio work and how much of it was the original songs? Like, I could tell the Leipzig performance was the actors doing it cos the bass and guitar tones were all wrong (but played really damn well outside of that) but the vocals were clearly og Dead. I it’s interesting to me how they made it aound both live while using the original songs, must have done some hardcore remastering to make it not sound like complete shit
