Am I weird for thinking city song is the worst here?
Great intro but I never listen to it on its own, only on full album spins
|
| |
yes, you are. it might be the best song here

don't get me wrong Gyro, I still love Guest House. I still love this record. But Guest House lost its favourite spot for me in favor of Daughter or Satan

i think city song will always be my #1. the whole last minute is just pure insanity. that discordant guitar bouncing back and forth, the crunchy bass, how the guitar relents for just a brief second before that final scream. i love songs like this - the ones that get progressively more intense until that one moment at the very end where all hell breaks loose. first time i heard it i remember thinking the song was pretty dark, a decent opener, but then i got to the ending and was floored by it. i think it's the most fucked up Daughters have ever sounded and i really dig their darker stuff.
been really digging this album in genera lately tho. i always praise the bookends but yeah, daughter, satan, and basically everything else has just grown on me a lot lately. might 5 this

City Song live would be fucking harrowing.
Wish they would go all out insane again and play some tracks off of Hell Songs. Lex would be doing some really weird shit singing those songs I guarantee you that. Still, I love this album to death.

Oh damn...bought a new vinyl record player (pro-ject T1, audiophile thing for comparably little money) and relistened to this. Such a masterpiece. Amazing how I am still blown away by it even though I played the shit out of it. Things like the drums on Ocean Song or the overall effect on Daughter. Fuck me this is a masterpiece
