Yeah that's true DDD, but averages here are thus much higher, which means people who do vote for stuff they do not like are the exception and stand out a lot from the others. Not saying that's a bad thing or something, it's just an observation.

To get a full accurate objectivity you would need to have a machine that randomly assigns you an album from the DB and then you'd judge it, that would be accurate but also a bummer and even offensive to your musical path.

kinda like the weekly song of the month thing, the thing is though music is literally endless, and no matter the number of users on the site, there will never be an accurate portrayal of what the overall consensus is, maybe for albums with massive amounts of ratings such as pink floyd, but even those are over-inflated to the more positive direction over the average and/or negative

That’s another thing...

My scoring system takes into consideration everything I have actively listened to, not ALL music. I don’t give something the benefit of the doubt because it’s better than *insert bottom-of-the-barrel mainstream radio artist*. Otherwise I’d have zero 1s, because I don’t think I’ve heard anything as bad as some of the absolute codswollop I’ve unwittingly heard on the radio.

Also there’s that ol’ Sput-ism of not being able to award a 1/10, this is a 3/10, quite a significant difference when you think a about it.

It does, depending on where you look. It also has an almost insurmountable about of total tripe.

« The Seventh Sojourn » i like the exotic feel of this one.

Opeth is one of my all time fav band,

but this LP leave a bad vibe, for me.

Heritage is way better than this Sorceress.

Seventh Sojourn is nice, yeah. Otherwise mostly disagree but don't feel like explaining why coz I know none of you will agree. This site is sure teaching me a lot about myself.

Also I just rate things what I feel. Otherwise I'll overthink it and end up rating next to nothing. But looking at my ratings I reckon a lot of them *are* too high or on the fence.

I know what you mean. I've learnt to let loose about the way I rate things. I used to scrutinise a lot more in the past. Now I just rate based on what I feel, like you said

I'll still give albums a few listens, and digest them before rating them. I don't normally do it after the first couple of listens

Great attitude inferno! Don't let our opinions change that.

As long as you stay friendly about it you can have any opinion about the music you want and people will accept that. At least that's my experience here.

Pfffft I have just enough self-esteem to have faith in my own opinions.

Same with amount of listens as Omair too, I figure if I can't listen to something at least 3 times, I probably don't like it that much anyway.

There's no objectivity in art, so who cares about ratings? Ratings say more for the individual who rated it (and then again, they don't), or the site, rather than the album itself

True.

"There's no objectivity in art"

I used to think this too, but I'm not 100% on it anymore. Maybe more like 99% at this point. I can't think of any objective measures that aren't also subjective in their perceived importance, but I still feel like there are so many such measures and so many different opinions about the quality/nature/veracity/etc about them that there might be some grand, objective thread that runs through or takes into account all of them but is too complex for any person to fully comprehend.

In other words, yeah. There is probably no objectivity in art. That was a lot of words to say fuck all.
