It's crazy how much he changed this album from Feb 2016 to June 2016. I missed out on its completed form bc I hated it the first month it came out and never revisited. Coming back to it 5 years later, I realize I done fucked up. Bumped from 2.5 to 4.

Yeah, I have the proto-version as well as the final release. This is definitely the superior version.

First 4 tracks are immaculate. Lotta love for Real Friends and 30 Hours too.

I love that creepy, lo-fi synth sound in Real Friends, really hammers home his theme

I disagree with the assertions made by most rappers on social issues. It's a constant refrain of "why are the cops harassing us," "white folks don't get it" before they turn around and talk about all the illegal stuff they're doing, or handwave criminality like Lil Baby does on The Bigger Picture "we're just products of our environment!"
NWA have some abhorrent stuff btw - check out "She Swallowed It" where MC Ren talks about gang raping a 14 year old. Ice Cube is also a massive antisemite. I like some of Tupac's music, and I recognize the skill of guys like Nas/Immortal Technique, although that style of rap isn't my cup of tea. They are leaps and bounds ahead of J. Cole though.

I can sympathize with the issues rappers talk about while also criticizing hypocritical things they do.
Also why the damn J. Cole hate though? His stuff is great.
