I like everything the band has done. I didn't mean to come across as defensive, I was merely asking (of sorts) whether you didn't like this as much because it is much more aggressive than the newer stuff.

Oh sorry, my bad man a misunderstanding on my part. I do love this band's aggressive side (Jane Doe is still my favorite album by Converge), but I feel as though them dipping into their more melodic tendencies has worked heavily in their favor as of recently.

Ballou is a brilliant musician. I suppose it is mostly him who directs how the music sounds being the sole guitarist. Great sense of various "feels" such as the insanely chaotic to the more melodic tendencies shown on the recent albums.

It's why Converge has such an accessible discography for people who are looking for specific things in their music, and why most of us absolutely love Jane Doe, because it's such an easy album to relate with, along with its instrumental and vocal accomplishments.

And you've given this the correct rating, well played Snide. Listen to the redux of this, I prefer it, sounds huge whereas this is a little understated for 'verge.
