I don't get why the band basically took one idea post chaosphere and beat it into the ground

Tbf I gave Chaosphere a 4.5 and still regard that as one of the greatest metal albums ever released. When Meshuggah hit they hit hard for me but it feels so few and far between outside of that one album that their discography doesn't seem to deserve the praise it receives. With a few exceptions it all comes off as grating, boring and textureless like a jammed printer.
