Now I want to see a shiba frolicking in a cloverfield.

At first this album is as enticing and murky as a mound of decapitated bodies. Further listens and it is as beautiful as a peacocks resplendent tail plumage.

Omg I didn't even see this I need it!
Ah, that explains the Deliverance-conundrum zak.

It sounds murky, but individual songs have so much character. Akerfeldt tried to give each song a distinct identity, and I think he nailed it.

@Mythodea:
Yea, he nailed that pretty well. I wonder how much I would enjoy this with better production, because almost all the heavy parts have very little impact imo. Most softer parts rule though that's why I could see enjoying this a hell of a lot more

This is even more of a slog than I remember, any remote chance this had was completely obliterated by the wet cardboard production. Believe it or not I’m in a good mood today as well, so I was actually optimistic this time.

Agreed. And wholeheartedly agree about the production and the softer moments being far superior.

Will O the Wisp is okay, don't know why people lose their minds over it

Some of this sounds like it’s suppose to be heavy, like in a King Crimson heavily-distorted rock kind of way... almost as a perfect compromise, harkening back to days of old, whilst simultaneously moving on. It could’ve worked, but the guitars sound awful, particularly when trying to ‘pack a punch’. The lack of energy and emphasis on these sections really bleeds through into the rest of this sorry package, rendering it a soulless heap of drivel.
Apart from that I kind of dig.

I didn’t enjoy any of it, so this seems reasonable enough. Music doesn’t have to cause me emotional or physical trauma to award it such a score. I wouldn’t say it’s unlistenable, just completely devoid of anything that piques my interest.
I realise that’s not necessarily what you meant, just defending my scoring system.

"just defending my scoring system"
its awful in general....but on this I feel you're taking it too personally ahah which makes it even worse XD
just defending my scoring system...

No it’s alright, this site has a habit of over-inflating the averages of most things tbh. I don’t need to add further justification, but sometimes I choose to as someone may not know my rating tendencies.

2.5 should be average, but you never ever encounter 2.5 averages.

okay Simon (from idols)
As far as I'm concerned 1.5 means "very poor"...when you're picking good musicians to listen to in the first place, its a tough rate to achieve...but yeah...I'm aware of your rating system and I'm used to it. You're just pissed with Opeth this time though. When I listen to something awful or very poor usually I don't even finish it...
"2.5 should be average, but you never ever encounter 2.5 averages."
You rarely see average AVGS (2.5) because this is about ppl who like the artists and they are investing in listening to them....jeez...this is not math...its about spreading the love on music...ain't movies critique either...
