It makes sense that they made this one tho. After Crack the Skye, where do you really go?

Nah they tried that and it sucks

It doesn't suck, just isn't a 5. I wish it was, but it is overstuffed.

Yeah I loved it but some songs dragged and they needed to pick up the pace a bit in some parts of that album

i dont need a 90 minute mastodon album especially when the best songwriter in the band contributes almost nothing

About to jam this bad boy at the gym
Let's see how well this REALLY holds up
All Mastodon must past the "lifting" test

I think you'll be happy.

Went from a 2 to a 4 today
Yeah this passed the gym test
Damn, I guess this is my fifth favorite Mastodon album now (first 4 still own this)

I am telling you, the Blasteroid / Stargasm / Octopus trio is undeniable. It's like an epic from their earlier records jumping to the start of the record.

Yeah this might actually be my favorite post-Crack the Skye album now
Which is something I never thought I'd say
Newest one was my favorite before, but after a couple of years of letting it sink in I like basically never listen to that album in full anymore. That should not have been a double album imo

This one and Gojira's Magma do get kinda slept on for softening up the sound of their respective bands, but both are really damn good.

Yeah when this first dropped I was furious lol
Same with magma and heritage

Ugh I love Magma and no one can tell me different

Can't speak to Heritage as I am still brushing up on early Opeth before revisiting the post-Watershed stuff.

Yeah I mean I dig this way more than Heritage and Magma, and those albums I know a lot better than this
I'll always be salty about Opeth being a 70s prog worship band now - it's not even that they're not metal anymore, it's that they're just not that interesting to me
Magma certainly has some stellar moments, but some of the songs needed to develop more imo and shit like Stranded and Silveria have great opening ideas but just end up being way too simple for what I want from that band

Honestly I prefer Magma over TWOAF and L'enfant Sauvage. From Mars is still king and one of my all timers, but Magma has several of my fave Gojira tracks.

Yeah, I actually really dig the back half of Magma like infinitely more than the first half
Only Pain, Pray and title track are all fuckin fire
Agreed hard on From Mars being top dog
|

from mars is indeed better than twoaf

I had the benefit of seeing a bunch of Magma performed live, its definitely better than The Infant Sausage imo. I'd much rather have the dynamic variety of Magma than just balls to the wall Mario double bass and chugging like on Sausage, the Magma/Pray/Only Pain run is up there for my favorite moment in Gojira's discog, as unpopular as that might be
