At the very least he can't tell when someone is being a prick unless they overtly state it.

I've been going to metal shows for more than 30 years. I've heard countless musicians say the exact same from the stage. You can easily find videos of Lemmy saying the same exact thing. But somehow, in 2026, this is hugely controversial.

It really is no wonder that cultural production and music in particular all feels increasingly the same, more packaged, more sanitized, more monothinking, into "this side" or "that side". Everything needs to be tribalized, every topic became like a sports discussion. Almost no one is capable of dealing with an opinion that doesn't exactly align with their own worldview.

For me metal has always been about independent thought, forming my own opinions and ideas, and anti-authoritarianism of any kind, of any color, of any ideology. But it's never been easier to manipulate people, because that's what happens when you divide and railroad people into factions and clubs.
