"The Day That Never Comes top 10 Tallica songs"

what? I don't even think that makes the top 100!

that song sucks i agree, just a shitty remake of "one" and "fade to black" without the passion or character. sounds like something a metallica cover band would write.

U3 is the best song here for sure, really enjoy the guitar work and ambition on that one. the opener and BB&B aren't bad either. most of the songs just go on for waaaaaaay too fucking long. "All Nightmare Long" for example would be pretty badass at 5-6 minutes, there's no excuse for it being over 8 minutes long.

The Day That Never Comes is full of passion lmao, it's a beautiful song, also riffs incredibly hard, sick tempo shift, Kirk's solo ripping, who cares if it's the same structure as One, still rips ahrd m///

@sonomadude Yah ikr? i have never once intentionally put this album on to jam, i've heard it 2 times that that was enough

@roguenine that's nuts! Kill 'Em All has 10 songs (12 counting the bonus edition), Ride The Lightning (the best album ever recorded in metal history) has 8 songs, Master Of Puppets has 8 songs as well and And Justice For All has 9. That's 35 songs all waaaay better than anything on Death Magnetic. To say that, whatever song, is top 20 is craziness! I didn't even mention the covers from Garage Inc. and Load. Never forget Load!

deciding whether or not this is better or worse than Hardwired is difficult because that album has higher pearks, but lower lowpoints. this album is just generally a consistent mediocre.

This destroys Load and ReLoad as far as I'm concerned

Yikes. how is anything on here even remotely as good as "outlaw torn" "bleeding me" "fixxxer" "until it sleeps" etc...

...tho, i do agree that this is better than Reload. Better than Load tho? hell naw

To me, this is the album they would have logically arrived at after AJFA (sans the production). Definitely one of their proggiest and most adventurous releases, even if there are rehashes here and there (like the Day That Never Comes/One comparison mentioned earlier)

Idk, I feel like the s/t would have been really jarring back then for listeners who were expecting another album along the lines of AJFA

The worst song on Load is better than anything on this album. After 2 listens of this I felt like I went to the dentist, scared going in, and he injected me with novocaine to numb whatever hurt it would induce and after that, I felt nothing. Cmon now there is nothing here! Sonomadude has it right. Outlaw Torn is epic. Fixxxer is probably the last decent Metallica song recorded.

if they didn't eq this like fvckin' high school tv production students then the production would sound better, but this is still decisively better than load or reload

I strongly disagree. There is no saving this album. Production, lyric changes, anything. I FEEL something when I listen to Bleeding Me. It hits my soul. I was really young when that came out and thought it was the best song ever. It's the song that got me into Metallica actually. I can tell now that I'm older that James was going through something very painful. This album? There is nothing here to feed the soul. It's bland, boring, and sloppy everything.

"I was really young when that came out..."

That may be it in a way... that one is "YOUR" Metallica album--i.e. the one that first turned you onto them and felt a connection to as a kid. With me it was AJfA, and the first exposure and resonance is a powerful thing.

I actually dig quite a bit of 'Load'/'Reload'; there's some great hard rock there, but it's SoOo bloated with their constant inability to self-edit, it's spread pretty thinly. The project would have benefitted greatly from being a single album of the best songs from each.

Dogshit production aside,, DM is, IMO, the better, more cohesive release.
