Just a few post above here: "I've slowly come to like everything about 10k..."

I think he also said he thinks this is better than 10k.

To each their own, but 10k is a desert island album for me.

10k was my second favourite Tool before this came out.

This is solid, no doubt. But nowhere near the heights of 10k.

10k still has a lot of growing to do for me but I can appreciate the emotional weight of Wings Pt 2.

It's funny to me that a band skilled in time signature changes drops an album after a 13 year gap. With rose-colored glasses, this is a 4 to 4.5 rating. In comparison to where the progressive genre is today, a 3.5 seems more appropriate. Maybe it'll grow on me with more listens, but some songs are really dry at first (sex pun for Tool hehe).

I'm going with Melonhead on this, it's definitely Tool's weakest album and easily their most boring. Last track fucking slaps though.

I fucking love 10k Days, hard 4.5 for me. Just so happens that Lateralus, FI and Aenima are better imo. All three are 5s.

I’m hoping that this new album and tour/attention will inspire them to make one more album...my hopes aren’t very high, but I definitely consider it to be in the realm of possibility.

^^this album feels like a swansong to me.

Yeah it does to me too. I get the feeling like they don't really have the fire to create new music, that this one was to get the fans off their back and they'll probably tour off and on for another decade but no more albums.

Stay the grand finale

Stay the reading of our swan song and epilogue

Either that or the nihilistic tone of the record is genuine and they don't believe that the world will last long enough for another record.

Good point. I couldn't help but feel like a lot of the lyrics on the album were self-referential, like 'warrior struggling to remain relevant/consequential' and all the epilogue references. That's just how I took it, hope I'm wrong though.

They do have a shit-ton of material left over from this album though. Now that they're not constraining themselves to making songs in 7, writing a follow-up should be relatively easier. In theory that is.
