My DM initiation has brought me here & it's a very good place to be so far. Instantly enjoyable... I can see why some claim them to be a gateway band, can see me exploring their discography further.

This is their best but the whole discog is good to great. Definitely a DM classic here.

Outside of the last one, they don't really have a bad record (Domination is close). Everything else is death metal pantheon.

The middle section of this album (Maze of Torment onwards) is rock solid. Looking forward to going through their discography eventually, may even listen to the last one, at least it might be amusingly bad.

Domination is the worst album ever.

I highly recommend listening to Abominations of Desolation as well as all their other records aside from Domination.

Missed this initially, thanks guys. So it's pre-Altars material but wasn't initially released as an album at the time? Early on in the DM landscape then.

It's pre-Altars and Altars material, yeah. From what I understand, Trey and Mike Browning had a row over a girl, Browning got canned and the rights to the music was disputed which sadly means it wasn't released in '87 like it was supposed to be. Could have been even more influential than it was already (it was tape traded to a lot of artists despite the formal release being delayed).

Ov will surely correct anything I got wrong.

That's more or less right. Trey slept with Browning's gf, Browning beat him up, Trey booted him from the band, and he shelved the album. All the tracks except Demon Seeds I believe have been rerecorded and placed on various MA albums since, but despite Azagthoth trying to gloss over the album's existence, it was always originally intented to be and was promoted as band's first full length studio album. Their career may have been way different had it been released as intended.

Interesting bit of history there guys, although the tracks (mostly) appear later it sounds worth hearing the original version as initially intended.

'Their career may have been way different had it been released as intended.'

...And this is a fair point.

"Trey slept with Browning's gf"

I dunno man. Trey has always radiated strong virgin vibes.

He's a bit of a weird one. He's literally like every single virgin 4chan anime weeb but like twenty years before it was a thing.

And his mother kicks ass. I wont say it's a gay trademark, but almost, according to my prejudices.
