haven't listened to the original tracklist of this in years, that run from We Only Come Out at Night to Lily is what will be on repeat forever in my own personal hell. absolutely painful stuff
|
| |
think you've been avoiding it long enough to forget that run starts on XYU
although really the whole thing could have ended on 1979 and v little would have been lost. thoroughly pointless double album, but with easily enough good material that it could have been another story

In terms of A-side I would bin Love and Take Me Down
In terms of B-Side I would bin Tales Of A Scorched Earth, Stumbleine, We Only Come Out At Night, Beautiful, Lily (My One And Only)
You can still make a double LP out of the great/excellent material but it would be 1.5 hours, not 2
|
| |
highkey think Stumbleine is one of the better songs on side 2 and I generally have very little time for Corgans acoustic attempts
|
| |
Stumbleine is an easy highlight for that stretch yeah, probs the only post-1979 song I feel strongly about keeping
|
| |
Lily is fire, this is fake news.

It's ok, bit of a strange one. We Only Come Out At Night/Beautiful/Lily are pretty average, By Starlight and Farewell and Goodnight are excellent however.

Yeah Starlight and Farewell and Goodnight are excellent.
|
| |
By Starlight can hang just for that lovely guitar tone. pairs very well with Set the Ray to Jerry, a song that should have been on this album

Yeah every time I listen to Jerry i always think it should have been on here, would have beefed up the back half of the record.

We Only Come Out At Night was in an Apple commercial a few years back and it only served to make me hate it even more
|
| |
I mean. Twenty-eight songs, not every single one of 'em is gonna be a banger. The K/D ratio is still v high, all things considered.

Never heard Jerry before.
Gave it a listen. Lovely.

Double-albums are usually a bad idea but only Billy Corgan can follow up "Tonight, Tonight" with "Jellybelly"

Muzzle and Porcelina of the Vast Oceans are probably my two favorites off this album
|

You know Love and Bodies are bangers too

Sequencing Jellybelly after Tonight, Tonight was a terrible idea, this is how you kill the atmosphere at once.
