Adz is so consistent while Illinois is like 1/3 filler

"my rajneesh" is age of adz style but better than almost every track on it

Damn that's a bad take. I don't even think Adz would make a top 5 Sufjan list for me. Michigan and Seven Swans have way more soul and beauty to them, as does this album which is simultaneously devastating and life affirming. Illinois has the most personality and straight up infectious choruses he's ever written (Come On Feel The Illinois might even be his best song). All Delighted People is just a way more consistent and enjoyable experience than Adz too, with the title track being one of his most underrated. Adz is still a pretty good album but I feel it's overrated in his discog the same way My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is in Kanye's discog

if we're only ranking full-lengths:

illinois > michigan > adz > swans > this

Funny how ADP isn't technically a full length despite being longer than Swans and this

This album is astronomically better than any other Sufjan project I’ve heard. Everything else has pretty much a 3.5 ceiling.

i gotta listen to illinois more. i love most of this and age of adz (both require a bit more time & energy from me) but every time i try out illinois (which is i think is considered his most immediately accessible project?) i always end up bailing halfway through

Pretty much all the good songs are on the first half except Predatory Wasp of the Palisades, which is the best one imo

I like The Seers Tower better than a good chunk of songs in the first half imo.

Alright Pika even I think this album is slightly overrated bc it's lacking some replayability and consistency but a 1.5 and his worst?? I know we aren't counting Rabbit or his debut but c'monn dude no way. To each their own and all that, but as you're someone who clearly likes his other LPs, especially ones in the same vein, I'm genuinely curious why you hate this one

enjoy your rabbit is so underrated, it could have done being half as long as it is but there are some fantastic tracks on there

My Rajneesh is good, sounds like one of the sections of Impossible Soul so can see why it’d be a b side

Wait never mind. Some of it is clearly directly lifted from IS

it's got some structural similarities but "directly lifted" is a bit of an overstatement isn't it?
