it’s been too long since I’ve spun col. I wonder if it would even appeal to me at this point.

Somewhere Along the Highway is pretty easily my fav post-metal but it would be a tough call on what comes after lol.

Can't believe all the horrible things this band has done

I'm with Hawks honestly. CoL have been more varied and produced more interesting efforts than ISIS imo. ISIS are still good though, just not on the same level.

I mean I can do that with the first Spice Girls album. Doesn't mean it's a classic.
...although it is

ISIS are on the same level and I’m a huuuuuge fan of CoL as well. They peaked similarly, CoL just have more material. My rankings would produce these match ups…
Panopticon vs Salvation
Oceanic vs SATH
Wavering Radiant vs The Beyond
seems pretty close to me

Tastes shmates I guess. Personally CoL hit a lot harder for me.

Then, if you add Neurosis into the equation things get even more confusing
I’ve given up trying to decide and fortunately we don’t have to!

Never really gotten hooked by Neurosis although they are clearly very creative and unique. I think I'll have to try them again, and honestly was thinking about spinning up one of their albums last night so now's a good a time as any I guess.

the implication that CoL have been more varied than ISIS is absolutely wild to me lol
both bands' classics are peak, the ISIS discog is easily the one to reach for between the two. covers more ground, retreads far less, never puts a foot too badly wrong, never gets stale. would struggle five albums with five entirely distinct identities from the whole of CoL

“would struggle five albums with five entirely distinct identities from the whole of CoL”
beyond is distinct from salvation is distinct from eternal kingdom is distinct to vertika is distinct to dawn to fear

I'm totally opposite. CoL is amazing, but Isis is just on a whole another level to my ears.
