they did the whole prog/metalcore thing better on alaska. This album has a different sound altogether.

Lol at all the 5 ratings.
I saw them perform this live, and it was pretty cool seeing them play the whole thing in pretty much one take.
I will admit that they are all skilled musicians. But this album is just so boring, and this band has totally progressed into the gay.

isn't that the ultimate goal of all prog bands?

I used to like them around the Silent Circus period... this album makes me not want to really ever listen to any of their future endeavors.

Album rules. So does Silent Circus and Alaska. Great Misdirect is their worst, but hopefully they start heading back towards normal songwriting.

can't see how anyone could watch colors live and not be wowed.
They performed very well; what they've evolved into is just not my cup o' tea. For an encore they played Selkies and that was pretty sweet.

They definitely don't just stand around if you've seen the DVD; Paul, Tommy and especially Dan show a ton of great energy, and Dusty doesn't move because he has severe back problems. It's ridiculous that they can move as much as they do considering how technical their playing is.

tommy is a mad man live and Dan & Paul are very entertaining, especially Dan. The only one who doesnt move is Dustie as explained earlier.

they can play their instruments but theyre soooo boring live

Tommy really makes up for the rest of the band's shortage of energy on stage. Saw them about a year ago and when he jumped to the front of the stage for the opening of "Obfuscation" and started roaring away, it was just plain epic.

Agreed.
I'll admit, Dusty and Paul don't move around much (but could you while playing Ants of the Sky?), but Dan and Tommy are pretty intense at times, especially Tommy. The other great thing is not so much 'they can play their instruments' (which sounds fucking retarded) but that they never miss a note, even in a ridiculously complex song like White Walls. They put on the best live show that a band of that musical caliber could put on.
|
| |
'"boring live" thing is thrown on them far too much. there have been plenty of phenomenal bands live who don't move much on stage and no one holds it against them. I just don't get it.'
FUCKING THIS. Thank you.

It's like, pretty much, every prog/btbam hating faggot on this fan obviously has Jane Doe 5'd (me too), but, while they praise a band like that and call this one boring live, they forget that Converge is pretty bad live. I hate when people are super critical of a certain band, but one of their favorite band suffers from the same problem, however, in this case, BTBAM doesn't have the boring live problem cause it's not true.
