that being said most metalheads do seem to have more diverse taste than people who are mostly into punk and indie. in my experience anyway

I feel like most punk people still think it's 1978 New York
|

idk, I haven't really had bad experiences with metalheads... I've had much worse experiences with other kinds of people.

Yeah, unfortunately that's the tendency. For example in the country I live in, metalheads are seen like society's scum and that's nothing more than a stereotype, but sadly most metalheads do a lot to earn that kind of "recognition"

I'm a metalhead but I'm a music fan first and foremost, who just happens to like metal the most. Most metalheads I meet are like that
And then you have some metalheads who still think that if they even check out a punk or jazz or prog record they'll get a personal letter in the male from Kerry King telling them they're homos who are no longer allowed at shows

And yeah a lot of metalheads are just loser fuck ups who drink at 8 AM and still ask their parents for rent money at 36

It always seems the opposite for me. I mean you get purists in every genre but for some reason its more common with metal.

And at shows the loudest people are usually also really fuckin smelly and fat

Well for me, punks have the illusion of diversity because they might name drop miles Davis or James brown but most of them think that any song longer than 3 minutes is "pretentious wankery" and only throw in a few black artists and the occasional Dylan record to boost their liberal street cred

I see that on the net really REALLY often, but I've never really met a metalhead irl that was really narrow-minded.
|

well at least a metalhead has never tried to rob me or my friends, there are worse people out there

I look at it like this
Most punk fans I know irl wouldn't check out this album. Most metalheads however would gladly listen to say, the first Ramones record or the stooges and enjoy it

it all depends on where you live and the shows you go to/scenes you hang around i guess. here in minnesota, i cant recall any negative experiences with a metalhead. most of the ones ive interacted with have been really cool.

Completely different experience for me. Punk has always been more about ideology and the way the music is created rather than style, whereas metal is defined more by the style of the music. A lot of metalheads I've met are obsessed with style and if it doesnt sound somewhat metallic then they wont dig.
Plenty of punks I know like Sabbath, maybe because bands like Black Flag loved them and then you have slower punk bands like Flipper, heavier stuff like Amebix and Discharge etc its easy to see why, but I dont know of any metalheads that listen to the Stooges

I mean I'm a huge fan of old punk rock but I've just dealt with some real snobs. I know metal elitist too but even they dig some punk
