It is kind of impossible to rank this band! This one is a very very strong fourth though with the top 3 being pretty obvious. I had it as a weak 3.5 in the beginning and it is still growing on me!

I liked it from day 1 but it's nice to see that some people came around later.

What threw me off at first was that Matt's melodies are a bit more obtuse than they normally are, and there were fewer upbeat songs than on previous releases. This is definitely their most moody album.

At this point I almost expect them to become post-rock at some point

They gave Humiliation a near-metal makeover when I saw them so maybe they'll be the next Pantera lol

haha I wouldn't bet on that! BTW that is the track on here that has grown on me most since my first listen. At first I was like meh but now I love almost as much as Pink Rabbits.

Yeah "Humiliation" really grew on me. It has such a great build to that moment where it shifts.

'Slipped' is the one that grew on me most, in my top 4 with 'humiliation', 'Demons' and 'pink rabbits'. Seeing it live cemented it as a favourite, they definitely cast it as 'the big ballad' more so than even 'Pink Rabbits'. Plus I love the way he sings that line 'I'm in the city you hated'

Living in London the line 'I'm in the crush and I hate it' makes it a mournful commute classic lol

Humiliation best song ever agreed.

Also the live version of that song is so great.

Even though I think Boxer and High Violet are better overall, this album might be their best lyrically since Alligator. So quotable.

Is it okay to have 4 5's in a row from the same band because this one is so close for me now! IDK if it's the way I am feeling right now with so many relationships and friendships breaking down for me but this one has really grown on me since I first listened to it, more than their other albums.

I agree. There is something about listening to this album in the dark that makes it even more stunning. Such a distinctive atmosphere.
