It's definitely on the wankier end of the BTBAM spectrum but the highs of this album are so good for me that I let it slide. Nothing is worse than that accordion section in Automata 2 though.

This is by far their best work and nothing they've released since is even worth listening to.
edit: wait, I commented on the wrong parallax release.

Can't say I love the album as a whole, it tends to collapse on its ambition and obnoxiousness. But I welcome the intention and vision, Silent Flight Parliament has to be one of my favorite modern prog songs, the way it brings back its opening theme is pure chills.

Yeah I dunno man, this and Colors are the only albums by this band that I view as perfect

Colours to me is kind of a shtshow. Really confusing album with only few moments to make it memorable or catchy. Just overall a very tiring listen, feels like they were more occupied with showing their chops than anything else. But I already feel overwhelmed by their maximalist approach at times, so I'm kind of biased

Riff salad band yeah, but they reached the best balance of maximalism and coherent songwriting on Parallax and TGM

i find this album to be a lot more exhausting than colors personally.
tgm too but that album benefits from being like 10-20 shorter.
i think they got a lot more conscious about how they pace their albums with automata and colors ii

I'll listen to Selkies and White Walls all day, but the vast majority of this band's material has never appealed to me.
