Agalloch continue to streamline their sound by upping the black metal and speeding things up, but also makes for some truly bewildering moments: Their longest song, Black Lake Nidstang, is very fillery and mostly unnecessary and pretty much a letdown. Same with closer To Drown. Into the Painted Grey is top tier Agalloch with an amazing second half. Monolith and Ghosts are decent Agalloch songs and very solid. Overall very strange, but has its moments. 3.25/5

I was expecting a agalloch epic but it just stalls out and meanders for the first half over these laughable cheesy voice overs then just kind of dies out after some cool parts

These are just first impressions, I didn't really know what to expect from this after loving their first three for so long and seeing all the controversy this caused but even so I was pretty thrown off

That part where Haughm's wailing vocals come in at like 7:20 gets me every time.

And that section with the reverb guitar riff just before the massive wall of sound hits at around

14:30.. such a good track
