I need to get into them. They played near me and I was considering going but passed. Kinda cool to see a band live as your introduction to them -- I'd never heard Wolves In the Throne Room when I paid $8 to see them play in a parking lot. Still my favorite concert ever.

A lot of mastodons contemporaries pulled off a more accessible sound better than mastodon did.
Though to be honest mastodon is now wayyyyy bigger than the rest of them, so maybe there's something to be said about mastodons new accessibility....

Mastodon did a good enough job that I still consider them my favorite band, though that's almost entirely on the strength of the first four. Isis isn't moving up, Intronaut is close, The Ocean has no stability, Gamma Ray is over the hill, Ulcerate and Gojira both plateau below those, Revocation...now we're into the second tier.
