"FWIW, I jammed the whole Meshuggah discog this past month and going chronologically made their music click so much more for me" yeah that's a good way to do it, it helped me too

curious to hear the "fully remastered audio" for the record
the general fatigue (a positive for me!) may change quite a bit...

am hyped for this new edition because what this album really needed was to be longer...

I kind of don't get it, that remaster... Were they disappointed with how the original sounded? They don't say anything about that anywhere, which makes it seem like a cash grab, which totally isn't their style at all.
It's weird.

Remaster doesn't really do much for me, would've really needed a remix to change the sound of the record for a re-release to be meaningful. I like the original master more I think, vocals sound quite off now.

I can definitely pick up more of what Haake's doing on the kit on Ligature Marks. I feel like the hi-hat cuts through more on this version. His tom hits are also way more pronounced. The opening riff has that Born in Dissonance sizzle that I've always loved too. Maybe I'm hearing things, but I can at least pick out the changes on this remaster than I could on most of Obzen.

Yeah I can see that, but I didn't really have problems with the original. It's a bit more clear but also really sounds like a 'remaster', the mix doesn't really fit with the master imo.

Same. I've always though Obzen and Immutable were well-produced from the outset. It seems they really wanted to make Ligature Marks sound as vast, heavy, and meaty as possible as a means of justifying this updated release. Which makes sense, it's the "heaviest" song on the album, but that doesn't the remaster does something better that the original didn't.

Agreed with you both, although that fuzzy bass on the remaster was nice to hear. Do prefer the original too though.
