Ulcerate are good enough that i had been able to overlook the fact that all of their albums are generally the same with slight tweaks here and there, but i think this is where im finally getting to the point where i need a bigger change to keep me interested. We'll see, im gonna try giving this a listen again.

True, but the fact that the biggest change theyve done is the most boring kind of change a band can make, i dont think its doing much to scratch that change itch. If anything i think it makes me wish for some real change even more.

@Shadowmire For the past year I've been trying to explore heavier genres (technical death, black, blackgaze) and got to learn some bands and I was seriously interested in all those new dynamics, but for now I'm gonna retreat to my common waters!

yea i get that adolf. this is the 'change' i wanted them to make tbh. this band owns but they've always written these amazing but short-lived riffs. now they actually stick around longer and it's friggin sick

How can you listen to Everyrhing Is Fire or even Vermis and then this album and still think they’re a one-trick pony

Like you really must be unable to have more than a surface-level understanding of the band’s music if you think they haven’t changed at all since they started

Yeah I don’t really get it. The last 5 albums are all have their own identity. The only one where I felt like it would get stale if they continued was Shrines, because it was kind of a synthesis of the previous 3. But EIF is way more technical and chaotic than what followed, destroyers has the heavy post influence, Vermis is just dark and filthy, and this one is basically a melodeath album

yeah they have their own identity, sure. but in the end none of their albums are really all that different to me. i see them as tweaks. maybe with a band that wasnt innovative i would see those as sufficient changes, but i get disappointed when forward thinking bands like this end up sticking to a certain sound and stop innovating.

anyways, despite all my complaints, ill probably end up liking this anyways.
