But for real agd. Like I said on the Holding Absence comments. You don't need to white knight every album you like that other people don't. Not a good look. It's also not how opinions work.

Agent, how about you just write what you want to write and stop finding reasons to wantonly complain and seek approval?

"Agent, how about you just write what you want to write and stop finding reasons to wantonly complain and seek approval?"
this, discussion can end right here

No one said it isn't. We're just requesting that you stop being an obnoxious white knight in the comments section all the time.
Also we've not heard your music, music influenced by great albums is perfectly capable of being absolutely wank.

"Nah but seriously, it's possible and perfectly fine to be insecure about your own music. When you see everyone shitting on the albums you take influence from, it sends a message that your own music just isn't GOOD enough."
OK, I'm new to this discussion so I'll give it a shot. Agent, there are a bunch of bands that take influence from great bands that just end up making absolute dogshit despite that. You could just as easily take influence from bands that are perhaps less than good and use those elements to combine them in new and interesting ways, granted they aren't utterly annoying which is always a tricky balancing act. That, however, is just par for the course. What annoys just about everyone here is that you're expecting them to act like sycophants in order to prop you up. No one likes that. Ever.

It's the only one with an actual community. RYM's comments sections are dreadfully scarce in comparison.
|
| |
The fraction of the listening public that Sputnick and RYM make up COMBINED is so small it's statistically insiginifcant.

But why does it matter what we think?

It "matters" because I'm an insecure fuck that doesn't want to have my lifeblood get a 1.3 or some shit.
|

Basically. People aren't gonna give the albums you like 5s because the low scores make you feel bad. That'd be dumb. Make your music, if you like it then that's the main thing. If you're writing music to try and please Sputnick then you're gonna have a bad time.

"People aren't gonna give the albums you like 5s because the low scores make you feel bad."
And I don't expect that lmao. Even I wouldn't 5 every album I like.

You're treating that part of my comment very literally, but okay.

"Okay but, not to sound too harsh, but that sounds like a you problem, and you should probably sort that out."
Tbh thats exactly what it is. I'd have to completely change my genre to "write better music" because I don't see my shit as any better than an album like this or Gravity.

If you actually care about how people rate your music then you shouldnt be making any fucking music at all.
|
| |
"I'd have to completely change my genre to "write better music""
You wouldn't though and also, again, it doesn't matter what we think. Do you think the majority of artists with poorly rated albums on this site give AF. Underoath would never have even made this album if they'd listened to all the shit they got back in the day.

Yes I would, the influence of these supposedly "shit" albums would still run through, and my lack of experience compared to them would immediately put me at a disadvantage.

I write music and definitely hope that people vibe with it but I can’t even imagine just not writing stuff because I’m too afraid there will be faceless internet people that dislike it. And then being all moody and obsessive about album ratings because of that as a result. Sputnikmusic.com ain’t your therapist dog

God forbid just expressing yourself musically and not caring about what others think. God forbid doing music to improve yourself more and more. God forbid not whining like a bitch because people dont like what you make.
