New album is just around the corner! Time for an Opeth binge.

The Swede version is so much better in full I think. It takes on that 'contextual' feel of a complete album.

Can't believe that the last time I was excited for an Opeth album was for Heritage. Feels good!

I've tried to get into the English version for weeks, and nothing sticks. I doubt the Swedish version will suck me in. The new one is definitely the best of their pure prog albums, though.

New album is very hit or miss for me. Some really cool stuff but some is a little too over the top for me. I really wish opeth would just be opeth but Mikael does what he wants

I'm going for the Swedish version too, sounded more genuine in the two singles.

Expectations are still low-ish.

I'd love to hear more of this death metal album Mickael apparently deleted, sounds like a blast.

Visions of a Metalocalypse-esque mass suicide, only it's Opeth fans offing themselves cause the screams keep getting ctrl+z'd to make way for more dinosaur rock

Haha! I really have zero problems with the screams being gone though! Heritage is one of their absolute best. The difference is that one was inspired and exciting while the latest two have been a bit boring and through the motions.

Not just Heritage, Damnation is one of their better albums. They've succeeded twice in producing engaging material without growls.

He must be spinning in his Sputgrave right about now.

Sorceress is by far their current lowpoint and it's not even that low, band never "died" or anything. They just became unpalatable for most of their original audience except for those who were already following the band for their values beyond the extreme metal surface.

Like MAYH closes with a track of 100% shameless Floyd worship.

Omg yeah, loooove Epilogue.

It's quite a unique track for them too now that I think about it. And a little hidden.

Well, the production sucks super hard, which makes the tiny bit of great material fall flat on its face. It's a pity. Plus they sound a little tired and through-the-motions here.

Their worst record easily.
