astronomy is my favourite of the hard sciences, and a personal obsession of mine. that said, no man's sky seems moderately appealing. i love the way it was designed, and the creators are visionary geniuses, but there are other space sims in the works (like star citizen) that seem to emulate the actual feeling of space travel. no man's sky is very cartoonish by comparison, which isn't a bad thing per se, i mean i love all kinds of different art styles in games. basically i think people should manage their expectations for now. we don't know the full capability of their engine just yet, and how well the random generator will create this explorable universe.

for the time being, i'm actually far more interested in uncharted 4 and doom, although i think it's safe to say dark souls 3 will be my goty when all's said and done

"a game where you can explore an endless amount of space with endless worlds, and worlds which you can traverse entirely instead of having little patches where you have to sit and wait for the load screen to get you there."

my concern here is that these planets might not be especially fun to traverse though. like at first the novelty might seem awesome, but the randomizations might make planets static and dull, full of nothing other than some obligatory resources and enemies. i think the novelty is going to wane fast

really hyped for new Mass Effect, hopefull the new storyline won't suck

but forreal tho i've never felt as much hype as I do for No Man's Sky, i love to explore and the thought of having an endless universe toinvestigate is amazing to me, can easily see myself getting a good few hundred hours of gameplay out of it

plus the art style is beautiful, can't wait to take some awesome screenshots

maybe in the future we might get stuff like it, but with civilizations, cities, space politics and factions, grand battles, and it will be the best thing to ever exist

I'm still waiting for the next horror masterpiece... I want to see those who say "better graphics = worse horror games" proven wrong.

"i'd like that too but too many jumpscares these days"

outlast was incredible and somewhat recent. same with alien isolation. outlast 2 is coming out, as well as a few other interesting horror titles. i think the medium is much more successful in gaming than in film. there are good horror movies every year but they're surrounded by a horde of generic pieces of shit.

also yeah spore was complete dogshit. i purchased it day 1 because it looked awesome. huge mistake

Outlast was interesting (the night-vision camera makes everything scarier), but the jumpscare mechanic is still like 80% of the game.

Alien isolation is like Amnesia, but with a better antagonist... Still far a masterpiece.
