In what way is this better than Kid A? This one is good, but it doesn't flow nearly as well as that one and it lacks a unifying atmosphere in comparison imo. The overall experience of Kid A is generally fulfilling in a way that this one can't quite reach as far as I'm concerned

I can see it being better but idk about 'so much better'

Rik on your last comment I mostly agree, but I find this has a really unique and strange atmosphere that really sucks me in.
Didn't someone make a playlist of this and Kid A mixed together as a double album? I'd like to see that again.

many, many people made some variation of that playlist
that was how it was originally supposed to be released wasn't it?

In this article Thom Yorke is quoted saying that this is an explanation of Kid A, whatever that means:

I also decided to make my own playlist of both albums together last night. Kept the first half of Kid A intact and included some of this album's b-sides.

I thought about putting all the Amnesiac songs between the two halves of Kid A (between Treefingers and Optimistic, that is) in a different order. Hunting Bears and I Might Be Wrong would be tied together for sure ...
On the other hand, thinking about it ... the Amnesiac Morning Bell would work much better as a dark reprise of the Kid A one than the other way around
Edit: You could actually put some of the Amnesiac songs between Morning Bell and Motion Picture Soundtrack since those two are among the few songs on Kid A that don't segue

Still sounds like a B-Sides collection

I agree to some degree, but like I said before, it is a b-sides collection of one of the best albums I know and that's the reason why most of the songs are good nonetheless

the fact that apple music put like spinning plates in their best deep cuts playlist restored my faith in em

"Still sounds like a B-Sides collection

It's too flowy for that :

Still sounds like a B-Sides collection I kinda agree but I think it only adds to its greatness. Kid A is amazing and I prefer it on some days but due to how "perfect", slick it is, the "trauma" (which is for me what this "double album" is ultimately all about) seems to be largely dealt with there. On Amnesiac you're right in the middle of the catastrophy. It being a fractured collection of somewhat "imperfect" songs is only fitting.
According to Thom Yorke "[on Kid A] the fires were all going on the other side of the hill. With Amnesiac, you’re actually in the forest while the fire’s happening". I couldn't agree more.

The statement about the forest fires fits with the thing about Amnesiac being the "explanation" to Kid A he also stated - if you look at the fire from afar you won't be able to see where the fire came from, but Amnesiac is up close and therefore explains its origin.
Makes me think if Amnesiac could be seen as kind of a prequel to Kid A, with Amesiac being the once lost memories of whatever happened that started the depression and disorientation outlined in Kid A's songs ("I'm not here, this isn't happening", etc), and these memories are recovering - but not in a chronological order, which is why musically related pieces like Hunting Bears and I Might Be Wrong aren't pieced together.
So, this is the trauma and Kid A the depression. If I remember correctly, Yorke implied something traumatic happening by the time these albums were written.

when it comes to Radiohead, calling an album a "b-side collection" is practically a compliment
|

I'm thinking that Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box is Radiohead's best opener.
