It depends on the genre/style of an album in many respects.

"Dude no need to defend yourself, it wasn't a criticism lol. You just have a loooooot of 5s"

Haha no I wasn't really defensive at all, just offering a (rather unreasonable) reason for my ratings

Basically, if an album really meant something to me in the past or if I really like an album a lot and I think it's an album people will still give a fuck about it in years from now, I'll 5 it. Does that mean it's objectively speaking 5 worthy? Probably not. But you know, I'll never claim to be a connoisseur of any genre, I just listen to whatever comes my way

Haha yeah that's true
I'm actually reasonably new to metal though. I mean, only really started exploring the genre 2-3 years ago. My dad always played in a blues band, so I more grew up listening to the blues, 70's rock, prog, soul or jazz albums he owned, along with the hip hop my friends always listened to. Metal is a genre I started exploring and collecting myself

i grew up on metal and zeppelin which laid the framework pretty clearly for where i ended up, regardless of how much i tried to diversify

I got to know bands like zeppelin, sabbath, deep purple...from a fairly young age (because my dad owned a lot of albums by those bands)...and of course I already knew about the more mainstream, entry-level metal bands years ago...but a shitload of stuff I didn't really know about until 2 years ago

Pretty good album but I found painkiller underwhelming.

Not as good as Symbolic, imo. But i think Symbolic is one of the best albums i've listened to so...that much was obvious lol.

Still, i found the album lacking compared to the previous 3. Obviously deserves at least 4, though as Death never really had a bad one. So still a great listen anyway.

@Thalassic: you DO have way too much 5s. How can you put all Death albums as 5s ? Some are obviously better than others. Not all of them are classics. Same for Maiden, i love Maiden but seriously...Iron Maiden and Killers as 5s ? No way. (Di'Ano eww).

Putting everything at 5 diminishes the value of a 5 rating and its impact, imo.
