I'd say the best track is either Indonesia or Marianas Trench

the whole back half of this is pretty insane

Back half is best half, but Marianas Trench is my favorite track on here

Like half of this album is tied for best metalcore song ever. Mariana's is right up there (even with the weirdly similar My Curse intro).

That's a stretch, I love these guys but come on

Whole album is top 3 in the genre for me easily. Maybe that's weird but I never claimed to have conventional taste.

its defffffff not even close to top 3 in the metalcore genre but its by far their best work. still spin it on occasion

That's cool, it just really connected with me on a level that most similar genre stuff never did. Also time & place played a big role. I've learned most of this album on guitar (through blood, sweat and fucking tears) so I intimately appreciate the craftsmanship that went into it and greatly admire the guitar work. I still listen to it all the time.

Tastes evolve but I never look down on shit I listened to that meant a lot to me. That shit is part of who I am. And Meddler has to be the best thing on this, songwriting is just impeccable. I've mostly been a modern metalcore fan (As I Lay Dying and Killswitch got me in) but I've been exploring older stuff. Most of it isn't for me though, I've been digging Converge a lot but I see it as a very different subgenre of metalcore personally.

eh for me abr is typically only good at writing generic bangers but yea i gotchu. way better actual songwriting in the genre for sure. they just reuse the same formula overrr and over
u listen to misery signals rite?
spin this btw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bn7a9V96BLM

They do recycle a lot but I don't automatically see that as a bad thing. I don't look for my favourite bands to massively change their sound every record. That's a recipe for disaster in my experience. I like to hear a sound slowly perfected over time. And yeah Misery Signals is one of my favs.
The song is good but 90s and 00's metalcore are two different beasts. Comparing stuff like ABR to Acme is just pointless.
|
| |
eh not rlly, more just about the comparison of great songwriting techniques in the genre, altho yes, 90s metallic hardcore and modern-day metalcore r not the same
one is great at writing songs the other just chugs incessantly and 'shred' phrygian style hehe
that said white washed, ocean of apathy, meddler, crusades, trench r great and way beyond their potential ud think
escape artist underrated af thing is br00tal always liked that one a lot

Escape Artist is amazing. Yeah they do chug a lot and it gets tired but it's a balancing act, for every chug there's a sick lead harmony or crazy string-skipping alternate-picked melo-death riff. I'm a straight sucker for that stuff.

White Washed was one of the best opening songs live I’ve ever seen.
