Hail to the King does have some enjoyable moments and a couple of good tracks. Coming Home and Heretic are actually pretty sweet imo, Planets and Shepherd of Fire are fine. This Means War would be okay if not for how much of a blatant rip off it is of Sad But True. It’s honestly fucking embarrassing. Rest of the album is a snooze.

I’ve said it before but check out the acoustic version of the title track, it’s legitimately very good

I understand the hatred for this album, but I think it's pretty fun.

Lost is awesome, even with the auto tune towards the end.

Brompton Cocktail and Almost Easy are nice little bangers.

Gunslinger is cool.

Being wedged between two of their best (3 if you include WTF) certainly doesn't help things.

I mean it’s for sure fun but not in the way the band intended it.

I read that A Little Piece of Heaven nearly didn’t make the album, they wanted to do a Halloween EP but WB pushed them to include it… bad fucking call. It only makes the album seem even more scatterbrained than it already is. Cut out Unbound, A Little Piece of Heaven, and Dear God and replace them with Demons, Dancing Dead… and I guess fucking Until The End so the album has a closer, then remove the egregious autotune from Lost and the shout parts between verses on Critical Acclaim and this becomes a much better album. Still would be a weaker one but it would be a hell of a lot better than it is.

To me the entire back half of this thing minus Brompton Cocktail is almost completely unlistenable. I also think I like the alternate version of Afterlife even more than the original but it’s been a while since I listened to it. Still far and away the best song on the record. As it stands, Afterlife, Brompton Cocktail, and Almost Easy are the only front to back great songs on the record imo

It feels by far the album with the most label interference. Hence things like Almost Easy and Dear God.

But there's nothing on this album I dislike, worst track being Unbound.

On that we can agree. That song is a fucking abomination.

At least they had the common sense to literally never play it live. I hate everything about it. The sweeping pianos are fucking garish, Matt sounds like he’s pulling the vocal melodies out of his ass as he’s recording the song, not even an interesting lead guitar part or solo from Syn can even somewhat redeem it.

And that boys choir at the end is so fuckin dumb.

I can at least give you a taste with this album, because I have strong opinions on literally every song lol:

10. Dear God

9. Unbound

8. Lost

7. A Little Piece of Heaven

6. Critical Acclaim

5. Scream

4. Gunslinger

3. Almost Easy

2. Brompton Cocktail

1. Afterlife

Shit, maybe I’ll do the whole thing tomorrow. I still have to work out some of that middle 30 I mentioned but I might try to at least get it started at the worst ones and maybe just update it from there… I might just do it that way. I can at least do the bottom half when I have time to kill.

Scrap Unbound and possibly Gunslinger, add Crossroads and Dancing Dead, the album instantly gets better.

I like Dear God btw. It's whiny and corny as shit but charming in its own right.

I listened to this twice yesterday and Afterlife is definitely higher than I gave it credit for.
