I have a feeling ALA will prefer Sad Songs to this and maybe even Alligator

Idk just a feeling

It's less "post dad rock" so it may appeal to you more.

this hit me like a tonne of bricks first-listen but i agree the ~nuance~ emerges after repeated listens

weird Start a War and Gospel are my two favourites after the perfect opening quintet, i gather they're not as beloved

gospel is like top 3 on this album imo

but yeah seems like the first two songs, apartment story and slow show get most of the love

I love Gospel but it's not really a standout here.

Plus most of those closers I would rate as 4.5/5 songs so there's not a huge difference in quality across that ranking I did in the HV thread

Gospel is one of the best on here. I just love the melody on it

Brainy, Guest room, Ada, Racing like a pro are so subtle yet so powerful

They weren't my favorites to start with tho, just proves how good of an album this is

5 albums with over a 4 average now...admittedly one of those no one has actually heard yet but The National are still on course to usurp Pink Floyd is terms of sput popularity by the end of 2017

Always will be Apartment Story and Ada for me. Everything here is incredible though, maybe just maybe Squalor being a bit weak compared

Squalor always felt like a sort of interlude to me.
