Slayer have always been my least favorite of the big 4 tbh. Once you peel back the shock value and aggressive riffs, it quickly becomes apparent that they don't exhibit nearly as much depth or songwriting prowess as the other bands. And those bands were still thrashy as hell, so why wouldn't I just listen to them instead?
Not to knock Slayer too much because obviously they're very influential and made some great albums, but I just don't think they ever quite reached the heights of their direct contemporaries

Theres some really great mid tempo stuff, South Of Heaven was totally different from their other works and still rips, songs later in their career like Playing With Dolls show just how versatile they can be. Im not knocking your opinion man, its one ive heard from lots of people, I just dont necessarily understand it

Anthrax has never been big for me.

Yeah, I know Anthrax are the black sheep. But Spreading the Disease, Among the Living, and Persistence of Time are all fantastic imo. Plus, Joey Belladonna - while not completely fitting the mold of a traditional thrash vocalist - is easily the best of the big 4 singers in terms of pure technical ability and range

Don't think I even made it through Among The Living, lol (which would mean I haven't heard any Anthrax album in full)
I should maybe try again

Anthrax suck and are easily the worst of the big 4

yeah I'm not optimistic thinking about it, I'm usually able to persevere till the end of spin numero uno, I once made it through that 80 minute 1975 album after all
How bad must it have been?

Anthrax and Megadeth are also far beneath early Metallica and Slayer, because 1. Anthtax sucks and 2. Dave Mustaine couldn't even sing if his life depended on it. Yeah i know the music is good but at the end of the day in a scenario/genre where vocals are important, this breaks the deal for me
On the other hand I discovered semi recently that Thrash has so much more to offer then just those BIG 4 anyway

Fair point, but he can shout like a maniac and that is also a vocal skill - which i happen to value very highly
