I always lean toward the first track having an effect on Agalloch rather than track 2

Yeah ofc Agalloch were influenced by this
flame time: they also did it dramatically better
|

"dramatically better", as if that were true
|
| |
Agalloch better than this album?
I don't think so.

I wouldn't even say they did it "better" at all, much less "dramatically better"

As much as I love Agalloch, I don't think any of their albums can really compare to this one.
It's a silly comparison to make too.

It's a silly comparison to make [2]
Both bands are among the very best and do pretty different styles, the only real similarity is there's some elements of black metal and folk metal in at least a few of each's albums.

the biggest difference between this and pale folklore is that this is boring and pale folklore isn't

I've not listened to this in too long. What is it you find boring about it DarkNoctus? I'm genuinely intrigued as to how this could be viewed as such.

Ulver were absolutely inspiring precursors for the kind of music that Agalloch and others do.
But I do not think that necessarily 'precursors' always did it better than those who followed.
and Cyg lol chill out man

They may not in every instance but what's there to not love on this?

Yeah that's out of discussion, I really enjoy this disc. It's fascinating as fuck, I just wanted to flame.
I just (personally) find still too attached to all the 90s black metal songwriting 'dogmas' which I don't personally enjoy. I like my music with a good production and blast beats not to cover empty paths, ya know. And I wasn't born in Oslo/Bergen/Notodden in the 80s either, I'm just a 90s kid from far out lol.
