Three songs in and the new one is shaping up pretty nicely so far. No idea why people are complaining about the production; it's fine.

Imagine 1'ing an album based solely on the production value. Some people on here make me roll my eyes into the back of my head

Basements don't always have the best acoustics

Honestly new one kinda just sounds like this so far. Not bad but idk it's not like some crazy new direction or a return to form or anything
|
| |
Very much agree as far as people being hilariously overboard with claims of either thing
I do think it sounds different than this tho
|
| |
The mix is a little more treble-heavy, and some of the guitar textures are more atmospheric, so the sound isn't exactly identical. But like, you could tell me 12 of these 15 songs were originally written for EoS and I absolutely wouldn't question it

"there are moments of true greatness amongst a sea of just dead boring blandness as far as I'm concerned after my first spin of H&G, wack hype train lol"
Album is boring as shit and WAAAY too long. Its the equivalent of someone cooking you dinner and everything is unseasoned, and after you finish your first plate they force you to eat 8 more plates of it
|
| |
So basically half the people are saying its fantastic and 4.5'ing and the other half are saying is bad and bitching about the production lol. Imagine that. Dont no how any mastodon fan could give this any less than a 4. Album is great. Yall need your ears cleaned lol.

"People who fived CtS and don't like the new one need their ears cleaned lol"
Couldn't agree more. What a bunch of clowns

Gun to my head I'd say the songwriting and in particular the solos are overall better on the new one, it's just not quite a "sit and listen to it for 86 minutes"-level improvement. I'm only just now finishing my first listen though, and it does pick up quite a bit towards the end, so who knows where I'll be on it in a week

It's great stuff, just wayyy too long agreed.
|
| |
Not agreed. It's a double album at 85 min. That's pretty common. And it's all quality. nothing wrong with the length. Take off your least fav 2-3 tracks shorten it by 15 min and there you go

The people claiming the production is 'off' on the new album are actually on crack. Their complaints confirm it. The treble, the wash over the vocals and the near raw values on those solos are a treat. I've missed a good snappy snare sound.

The drums do indeed sound exceptional but I'm not a huge fan of the hazy vox
