lol. Sorry to put you on the spot bro. I hate that.

The dirtiness of rock gives way to the bobbins of god knows what to dump out Tool.

Also, a lot of people have different definitions of prog. I tend to use it when a band does something that has never really been done in the genre before, so that makes me see a lot of trailblazing stuff as prog metal, but a lot of people may say that I am mislabeling.

By those standards, Death Grips should be prog. I've always been told it's about constantly changing time signatures, changing the tempo/dynamics and just more complex structures

Epic scopes and significant time changes are also something I look for, but there are a lot of bands that fall under that as well.

Perhaps they just incorporate progressive elements into their music then. It's quite a broad term

As far as I'm concerned, DT and a lot of the 'typical prog bands', Rush, Floyd, etc. have these frequent signature changes. I don't really understand 'new prog' as such, with bands doing a more minimal sound such as Gazpacho and The Pineapple Thief

I know right, but I'm not necessarily sure how they fit into the prog scene

I honestly don't think this sounds like Meshuggah at all. Great Album Though! Tool has never put out a bad album in my opinion!
