the term idm has existed for so long and been applied so haphazardly to any artist that doesn't just stick to four on the floor beats at 120-150bpm that i fear no good terms hav come along to describe many emergent styles

i mean back when it started it was just a buzzword for ambient techno but half the stuff that gets called it now is pretty divorced from both techno and ambient

"aquarius is the #1 dance number tbh"

excuse me if ur dancing to aquarius you clearly aren't having a spiritual acid orgy to aquarius which is what it was really made for

"who wants to get high and pretend to be a blossoming tree to You Could Feel The Sky with me"

tbh i never associated IDM with ambient techno. totally makes sense, but (only half jokingly) IDM is what i feel people call the electronic music they listen to after years of of saying laptop music is easy to make, just to be able to show face

agreed about 'electronica' spaceman. and I agree with the downtempo label, I just think IDM fits well along side it.

@avagant yes, I think together the two paint a better picture of what ur gonna hear even tho what ur gonna hear is kind of unlike anything else when it comes to boc

Also re electronica ya it bothers me a bit too but not as much because it's easier to just drop an "a" than it is to drop a "dance music"

When I think of "idm" I think more of the signature percussion than when I think of "ambient techno" which makes me think of the more melodic side of "idm"

I wish you described it at first as ambient techno so I wouldn't have expected to like it
